Mimi Jung’s work examines multiple dimensions of self-preservation, particularly as it relates to private and public self-representation, and the ways in which those depictions are manifest through social and cultural mores. Her constructed forms, with their voids and translucencies, are fixed but never static; the viewer actively controls the experience of transit around and through them—reflecting inward on their own behaviors. In the end, Jung’s limning of space is reflexive, visible to those who are predisposed to see it.

Born in 1981 in Seoul, Korea, Mimi Jung received a BFA from Cooper Union and attended HGK Basel and Städelschule for postgraduate studies.

I came upon this gem of a building recently…It is the first flagship store of the Olsen twins brand, ‘The Row’. It is a beautiful Mid-century California style store located on Melrose that was designed to give a sense of homeyness. Ashley was quoted in Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) saying “Ultimately, for us, it was about setting up like a home and just having the apparel be a part of the space”. The sisters wanted the store to be an extension of themselves and as well as be a representation of LA style.

They stayed true to their commitment of representing LA by working with local furniture and antique dealers acquiring the pieces showcased in the store, all of which are for sale.

I personally find this store breathtaking. It seems like a store that you could stroll through and appreciate the clothes. I hope to one day visit.
